Jay-Z To Headline Another Rock Fest: Coachella
Jay-Z joins the ranks of Muse and Gorillaz as a headliner at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which takes place this April 16, 17, 18 in Indio, California. Jay-Z's sharing the bill marks the first time a mainstream hip-hop artist has headlined the rock-centric 11-year-old festival.
The three-day event will feature more than 130 acts, including Thom Yorke???? (the Radiohead frontman's side project), LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
Jay-Z caught flak two years ago when it was announced that he would headline the largest Greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world: Glastonbury Festival 2008.
Chris Brown Responds To Rihanna's Tell All TV Interview
Chris Brown released a statement to MTV today, responding toRihanna's tell all interview with Diane Sawyer that has revealed the details and motivation of his February 8 felony assault.
"While I respect Rihanna's right to discuss the specific events of February 8, I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us," he said in the statement. "I do appreciate her support and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions. At this point, I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well. Abuse of any kind is always wrong. The rest I leave it to God."
While Chris Brown has avoided explaining the details of the assault in his interviews with Larry King and MTV correspondent Sway, Rihanna completely opened up in a three part talk with Diane Sawyer.
It is today's segment of Rihanna's "Good Morning America" interview with Diane Sawyer that prompted Chris' response.
Rihanna gave Diane her account of what happened in the car after the former couple left Clive Davis' annual Grammy party.
Rihanna revealed that Chris received a text message from another girl and when she confronted him about it, he lied. As they argued about the text message, the exchange escalated into Chris' violent outburst.
As Chris was beating Rihanna, she said she was hoping he would stop. "That's all I kept thinking," Rihanna said. "When is it going to stop. When is it going to stop."
Rihanna said that Chris looked as if he had blacked out while he was hitting her. "He had no soul, just blank," Rihanna said. "There was no person when I looked at him."
Rihanna said her only option for getting home was to walk. "I was bleeding. I was swollen in my face," she said. "My next option was to get out of the car and start walking in a gown and a bloody face."
The rest of Diane's interview will air tonight on "20/20." Rihanna will share more details of the incident.
Rihanna's emotional account of the ordeal will clearly spark further backlash for Chris.
Chris has had some detractors since the attack, but those numbers are going to increase now that the victim has come forward and shared her account of what transpired.
In order for Chris to get past this tragedy, he needs to uphold what he claims in the statement. He does not need to engage in his own candid interviews in an attempt to get back at Rihanna.
He simply needs to be apologetic, and to uphold his court orders of probation, community labor and counseling.

Kobe Bryant's Dad Sued!
TMZ obtained a lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court -- in which the Russ August & Kabat law firm claim Joe "Jellybean" Bryant never forked over the $76,520.78 he owes for the work the firm did during Jellybean's "dispute with the Los Angeles Sparks" back in 2007.
The law firm is suing for the cash -- plus interest.
Meanwhile, Jellybean's kid makes roughly $259,000 per game -- probably enough to spare a loan.

James Cameron Says 'Avatar' Will Beat 'Titanic' To Become Biggest Of All Time
It's one of the biggest questions in Hollywood. Can James Cameron's blockbuster sci-fi epic overtake the number one spot for highest-grossing film of all time, toppling the current champ, which is coincidentally another James Cameron film.
That's right, for thirteen years "Titanic" has remained king of the mountain, but with "Avatar"decimating the box office it seems only a matter of time until it dethrones Cameron's seafaring drama. We've all heard the experts speculating, but what does the man himself think? When we caught up with him at the Critics' Choice Awards, we asked him just that.
Back in early December, Cameron was fully cautious on the matter. "I don't think it's realistic to try and topple 'Titanic' off its perch," he told us then. But now the legendary filmmaker is singing a different song.
"It's gonna happen. It's just a matter of time," Cameron remarked confidently. A powerful statement, but the numbers seem to be moving in his favor. "Titanic" grossed an eye-popping $1.8 billion worldwide, but "Avatar" is closing in fast at $1.3 billion after five weeks. Unless the momentum is unexpectedly halted, the top of the charts doesn't seem that unlikely a prize.
If "Avatar" does overtake "Titanic," how will he ever top his now-infamous "I'm the king of the world!" Oscar speech? Well, if he has something in mind he's playing it close to the chest. "Yeah, what do I say to make a bigger fool of myself than I did last time. Is that where you're going with this?" he joked. "Well, let me think about it."
Do you think it's realistic for "Avatar" to crush "Titanic"'s longstanding record? Or will the doomed ship manage to stay afloat even longer?

Jay-Z Loses Battle For "Rockafella" Name
The rap mogul, who raked an estimated $122 million dollars combined with the earnings of wife Beyonce last year, sued celebrity chef Terry Miller, over the use of the word “Rockafella,” the namesake of Miller’s eatery.
The dispute entered the courts in 2006, when Jay-Z claimed that the name would confuse fans into thinking Miller’sbusiness was associated with his Roc-A-Fella Records empire.
Miller, 51, launched his restaurant with the proceeds he earned from winning $250,000 on a cooking reality show titled Hell‘s Kitchen.
A court ruled in favor of Miller and gave him granted him the exclusive trademark and the right to use the name in the UK.
This is not the first time a popular celebrity has lost the rights to a name in the United Kingdom.
In 2007, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs was banned from using the moniker “Diddy” in the UK, after losing a court battle to Richard “Diddy” Dearborn, who claimed the rap mogul was interfering with his trademark rights in the UK.

Emmy Award Winner Sir Charles Barkley Still Lurking around Politics

The mound round of rebound is going to run for Governor.
Barkley's message sparked a great public debate about the nature of role models. He argued,
I think the media demands that athletes be role models because there's some jealousy involved. It's as if they say, this is a young black kid playing a game for a living and making all this money, so we're going to make it tough on him. And what they're really doing is telling kids to look up to someone they can't become, because not many people can be like we are. Kids can't be like Michael Jordan.

Shawty Redd's Peers Call Murder Arrest 'Shocking'

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1629110/20100105/shawty_redd.jhtml
Atlanta producer Shawty Redd has had success in the clubs, the streets and the charts since he bowed his head in the rap game in the late '90s, working with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Gucci Mane — but his peers were definitely shocked to hear that he was arrested for murder on Friday.
"I really couldn't believe it," producer Zaytoven said. "You hear a lot of rappers going through that type of trouble, but a producer? That's my first time hearing that. I was just shocked."
On New Year's Day, Henry County police responded to Redd's 911 call. According to authorities, he told them that a man visiting his Hampton, Georgia, home, 35-year-old Damon Martin of Detroit, had been shot. After several hours of questioning, Redd was arrested for homicide. Redd, born Demetrius Lee Stewart, is due back in court on January 12.
According to Zaytoven, Redd didn't have a rep for being a troublemaker. In fact, Redd's work ethic and sound inspired Zay, who moved from the West Coast to ATL several years ago.
"I was new to Atlanta," Zay explained. "I was coming from California. He had the sound of what's going on down there. If I wanted to learn how to please the people out here in Atlanta, that was the to-go-by guy. He was the guy to listen to if you were trying to please the artists or trying to sell them beats — he's got the sound. It's very theatrical."
"It's South music," DJ Scream added. "It has a lot of bass. It's always good for the clubs, people's car systems. I think people forget 808 is the foundation of this. That's the reason why they play his records in the club. It's why his songs don't die out. Those bass lines, they're real 'hood and real gutter. He's real music at the same time. That's really the best way to explain. Of course, he's real versatile. He did the track with Snoop to show his versatility."
In 2008, Redd had his most commercially viable production effort with Snoop's "Sensual Seduction," with a sound reminiscent of late-'70s and early '80s funk/soul. Before that, Redd produced the majority of Young Jeezy's first album, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, and helped Jeezy turn the mixtape game upside down, helming key tracks from Young's timeless Trap or Die mixtape.
"Classic. Both of them. Trap or Die, that's a street Bible. Everybody plays that to this day," Scream said. "Of course, Jeezy's first album, classic. Even though there were other producers on both of those, Shawty Redd stood out. I think that's the best chemistry Jeezy has is when he gets in with Shawty Redd."
"It has a lot to do with him and the chemistry he's had with the artist," Zaytoven agreed. "It's like Dr. Dre and Snoop — when you get that chemistry, that music can last for years and years to come."
"You always hear his records. The stamp he has made in the beat game, it's crazy," DJ MLK offered. "I don't know no club where you not hearing a Shawty Redd beat. No club. The bass, the 808s, just to feel it as a DJ, to feel it in the club, the club is rocking — a lot of energy."
Redd got his breakthrough as a teenager, on rapper Drama's debut LP, Causin' Drama, with the hit "Left, Right, Left."
" 'Left, Right, Left' — that's my first dose of him. I was like, 'Damn.' Straight progress," MLK said. "You can tell he takes producing and beatmaking seriously. That's his craft. I never would have thought that the guy that made 'Left, Right, Left' made Trap or Die or 'Air Force Ones' or 'Sensual Seduction.' Then the mixtape he came out with, Shawty Redd Reloaded, it is still him. I was like, 'Wow. He's serious. For real, for real.' "
" 'Left, Right, Left' with Drama — that was the first time I heard Redd," Scream remembered. "I didn't know who he was. I remember buying the album, opening the album credits, like, 'Shawty Redd, whoever this n---a is, this n---a is dope.' Then I didn't hear nothing from him until he got with Jeezy. I remember opening the Jeezy album and seeing his name in the credits. I put two and two together."
Before his arrest, Redd was working on a slew of projects, including tracks for radio personality/ artist Stewie Rock, Young Jeezy and members of Jeezy's C.T.E.
"He's definitely among the top of them," MLK said about the producers coming out of Atlanta. "A lot of people f--- with Shawty Redd, Zaytoven, Drumma Boy — those are the names that if you're any type of artist, you try to get that sound. You have to go to those names. There are a few others of course, but Shawty Redd is among those top names. His name is spoken a lot.
"I was shocked, but I never pass judgment," MLK said of Shawty's arrest. "Hopefully, he'll be good. That's all I could say. I just pray for him. Nobody knows the real situation until he comes out and tells it ... but it's shocking."
